Overview

Sound Level Check ("Sound Level Check", "we", "us", or "our") is a mobile app that turns your phone's microphone into a real-time dB-A decibel meter. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app touches, how it's used, and the choices you have.

Sound Level Check is a single-purpose utility. There is no account system, no login, and no cloud sync anywhere in the app. Ambient sound is analyzed live, on your device, purely to calculate a numeric decibel value, actual audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted, this is a deliberate privacy choice distinct from some competing sound meter apps.

By using Sound Level Check, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please discontinue use of the app.

Microphone Access

Sound Level Check requests microphone permission for one reason only: to measure the amplitude of ambient sound and calculate a dB-A reading in real time. This is the app's entire function.

• Raw audio is analyzed in memory, on-device, only long enough to calculate a decibel value. It is never recorded as an audio file, and it is never sent to any server, ours or otherwise.
• Microphone access is requested on first launch (or on first attempt to measure), with a plain-language explanation before the native permission prompt appears.
• If you deny or later revoke microphone access, the app shows a clear message explaining it cannot function without this permission, since measuring sound is its core purpose, with a button to open your device's settings.

Session History & Calibration

When you record a session, Sound Level Check logs a time series of numeric dB-A readings (timestamp and value only), along with the session's min, average, max, duration, and loudest moment, saved locally on your device.

• No audio is ever included in a saved session, only numbers. This is true for every session, with no setting that changes this behavior.
• Your calibration offset (a simple +/- adjustment) is stored locally on your device and applied to all future readings until you change it again.
• Exporting a session (as an image or CSV) uses your device's native share sheet, handing the file to whichever app you choose, Sound Level Check does not manage or see that transfer itself.

What We Never Do

• We never record or store your actual audio. Only numeric dB-A readings are logged, at any point, in any feature. Raw sound is analyzed in memory and immediately discarded.
• We never upload anything you say or the sounds around you. Everything, live readings and saved sessions alike, stays on your device. We have no backend that receives audio data from the app.
• We never sell your data. No data brokers, no third-party data sales, no advertising built on your microphone activity.
• We never require an account. There is no sign-up or login anywhere in the app, so there is no profile of you for us to build in the first place.

Ads & the One-Time Purchase

The free version of Sound Level Check is supported by light, non-intrusive advertising (a small banner, with an occasional interstitial at natural app-open moments, never during active measurement). Ads are served through a third-party ad network, which may use standard advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads; this is separate from and unrelated to your microphone data, which the ad network never receives.

An optional one-time (non-subscription) purchase removes all ads permanently. This purchase is processed entirely through the App Store / Play Store's native billing APIs.

• We do not see or store your payment card details, these are handled entirely by Apple/Google.
• Your purchase/unlock status is checked locally against the app store's own purchase record on each launch. There is no Echozat account or server tracking your purchase.
• Restoring your purchase on a new device uses the app store's native "Restore Purchases" mechanism, not an email or account-based system.

How We Use Data

We do not use any data collected by the app for profiling, tracking across other apps, or automated decision-making.

How We Share Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. Data is shared only as strictly necessary to operate the app:

• Advertising network — serves light ads in the free tier, using standard mobile ad identifiers, never during active measurement.
• App Store / Play Store — processes the optional one-time purchase; we never see your payment details.
• OS-level share sheet — when you export a session, your device hands that image or CSV file to whichever app you choose.

We may disclose data if required by law, regulation, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sound Level Check, our users, or the public.

Data Retention

• Raw audio: Never stored, at any point. Analyzed in-memory for the duration needed to compute a dB-A value, then discarded immediately.
• Saved sessions: Retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. We hold no copy.
• Calibration offset & settings: Retained locally until changed or the app is uninstalled.
• Purchase records: Retained by the App Store / Play Store per their own policies; not retained by us beyond the local, on-device unlock flag.

Your Rights & Choices

Because Sound Level Check stores almost nothing beyond numeric values that already live on your own device, most of your rights are already satisfied by design:

Security

• Raw audio is processed entirely in-memory, on-device, and is never written to disk or transmitted over a network.
• Saved sessions and settings are protected by your device's own operating system storage security, the same as other locally-stored app data.
• Purchase verification runs through Apple/Google's billing APIs, which use industry-standard encryption in transit.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we rely on your device's own OS-level protections and reputable platform partners, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Sound Level Check is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after a revised policy is posted constitutes acceptance of the changes.
